The Idaho Theater for Youth will be presenting Tomas and the Library Lady at GEMS on Wednesday, March 19 at 8:30 a.m. This performance for Grangeville students is sponsored by Grangeville Arts, GEMS, and underwriters from around the state. The kids always love the chance to see live theater, and for many it is their only chance to see live theater.

I followed J. Bennett’s suggestion and asked the GEMS principal if the school could contribute to the cost this year. Mr. Stefani offered to pay the entire cost! So we can put our money to other, equally good use. Jane

Kathy Stefani asked me to convey to our members that the $1,000 Grangeville Arts gave to the GEMS music program last fall was used to purchase two used tenor saxophones. They are currently being “worked” so that they will be in great shape for the fall.
Look for the return, after many years, of the Grangeville school marching band in the Border Days parade. They will even be wearing at least part of the marching band uniforms.
Kathy also says that although the Idaho Community Foundation grant was great, it will not cover the entire cost of buying a new drum. She has some ideas to cover the rest. One of the old timpani drums will be at the Fireworks stand (the music department sells fireworks to raise money) to encourage donations to fix it for use. THe grant will not go far enough to do that. So look for the drum and consider donating to a good cause. Jane Spencer

I am happy to report that Grangeville Arts received a $3,500 grant from the Idaho Community Foundation. The grant is to be used to purchase a new timpani drum for the high school band. The high school drum is currently not usable. It will be fixed and given to the junior high band. There is not enough money in the school district budget to maintain, much less buy new instruments for the kids to use. I originally became aware of the need through my involvement in another group, Friends of Note. This is a group of parents and other music supporters. I applied for the grant through Grangeville ARts because you have to be a 501(c)(3) organization to apply for Idaho Community Foundation grants. For those of you who do not know, the Idaho Community Foundation is a statewide organization that collects and invests money from donors and members and gives the proceeds back to the communties through a granting process. Yet another worthwhile organization! Jane
